8U/6U HOCKEY

ABOUT
In our 8U/6U hockey program, the focus is on skill development, teamwork, and having fun. Our 8U/6U teams will practice up to twice on weekends (Saturday and Sunday mornings) and attend jamborees or games held at rinks throughout Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland.
GAMES AND LEVEL OF PLAY
For the 2025-26 season, we expect to form 4-5 teams, each with 10-12 skaters. Depending on the skill level of players, these teams will compete across various divisions: Lower A (travel), Upper B (travel), Lower B and House/Rec.
All jamborees hosted by the Ice Dogs will be half-ice games with participation from multiple clubs in the metro DC area. Planned home jamborees for the 2025-26 season include:
- Mite Fright: October 27, 2025
- Jingle Jam: December 14, 2025
- Superbowl Sunday: February 8, 2026
PRACTICES
Our approach of utilizing stations for skating technique, stick/puck handling drills, and small area games is tightly aligned with USA Hockey’s American Development Model (ADM). Practices will often conclude with a group activity (bumper or relay races), encouraging kids to play and laugh without noticing that they're skating faster and harder!
Practices will be held at 7:15am on Saturday and Sunday mornings (anticipated) at the NEW Mount Vernon double-sheet rink in Alexandria, VA.
