In the 2024-25 season, the Ice Dogs fielded rec-level coed hockey teams at 8U/6U, 10U, 12U, 14U and 18U, and girls’ travel-level teams at 14U/16U and 19U.
For the 2025-26 season, we look forward to returning to the NEW Mount Vernon double-sheet rink in Alexandria, VA, and adding CBHL travel teams and Learn-to-Play to our ongoing CCHL and Girls’ hockey programs!
For the 2025-26 season, we look forward to returning to the NEW Mount Vernon double-sheet rink in Alexandria, VA, and adding CBHL coed travel teams alongside our ongoing Girls' CBHL program.
If you have any questions about our travel teams, please contact Liz Townsend at liz.townsend@novaicedogs.org.
For our rec-level CCHL teams, we typically open registration in late spring/early summer, with priority registration for returning families and then opening to new players as space remains. We don't hold tryouts for CCHL teams and registration is based on capacity. If you are new to the Ice Dogs, email the registrar and ask to be added to our email list.
Travel tryouts have concluded for our coed CBHL teams. We still have openings for 10U/12U girls' travel team players; lease contact Larry Blake at larry.blake@novaicedogs.org for more information.

For the 2025-26 season, we look forward to returning to the brand-new, two-sheet Mount Vernon ice rink in Alexandria, VA, while also utilizing partner rinks including the state-of-the-art Tucker Road Ice Rink.
We anticipate coed and girls' CBHL travel teams will practice twice a week and play an average of 2 weekend games. They typically also play in 3-4 tournaments throughout the season. Most games are played at rinks throughout Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland with some teams traveling routinely to Pennsylvania and New Jersey; tournaments may be farther away.
CCHL (rec) players (10U-18U) typically have one practice and one game per week, with a final tournament in March. Games are played against clubs located throughout Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland; the CCHL tournament is often held at Skate Frederick, MD; Ice World, MD; or the Haymarket Iceplex, VA.
The 8U/6U team will practice up to twice on weekends (Saturday and Sunday mornings) and attend jamborees or games held at rinks throughout Northern Virginia, DC and Maryland.
All Ice Dog coaches are volunteers; many are parents of players or former players. All coaches are USA Hockey certified, complete several hours of USA Hockey certification for the age level they are coaching, are SafeSport certified, and must complete a background check.
Given the limited ice availability in the region, our ability to offer camps and skill clinics is currently limited. We look forward to adding Learn to Play, skills clinics, and other development opportunities when when we return to the brand-new, two-sheet Mount Vernon ice rink in 2025.
