NoVA Ice Dogs Statement on 2025-26 Season
Update – April 25, 2025:
We recognize that the local youth hockey landscape has dramatically shifted yet again and want to be very clear with our commitment to current and future Ice Dog families regarding our programming for the 2025/2026 season. This fall, the NoVA Ice Dogs will be fielding one team at each CBHL age group – 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, and 16/18U. Teams will participate in a Lower A or Upper A division based on skill level and majority age classifications. We anticipate weeknight practices and weekend games, as well as 2-3 tournaments and end-of-season playoffs. Home games will be played at Mount Vernon, Tucker Road and Fort Dupont rinks. No co-ed teams will compete in the AHL. In addition to our CBHL offerings, we will have two CCHL teams at each age group and look forward to welcoming many players to our fun and competitive CCHL programs.
March 7, 2025:
The NoVA Ice Dogs are aware of the recent significant announcements affecting many youth hockey players in the area and are working diligently to update our planning for the 2025-2026 season accordingly.
For the coming season, our plan has been to immediately add back CBHL programming and restart Learn to Play, while continuing to expand our CCHL, Girls and 8U offerings. As a non-profit organization that skates exclusively at public rinks, our ability to secure practice and, importantly, game ice is not unlimited.
We will continue to explore creative ways to address the realities of the need created by business decisions other clubs and facilities have made. We look forward to welcoming new players to one of our Ice Dog programs, and to continuing our strong partnerships with the Mount Vernon Rec Center, the Fort Dupont Ice Arena, and the Tucker Road Ice Rink.
Please be patient as we continue to navigate a realistic path forward that is responsive to these new realities, respectful of our current players and families, realistic with our public partners, and consistent with our goals and philosophy.
