Learn-to-Play teaches the fundamentals of hockey to new players in a fun, engaging format over the course of 8-10 weeks.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Ice Dogs plan to restart our Learn-to-Play program as part of our return to the Mount Vernon ice rink in Alexandria, VA. The exact start dates of Learn to Play will be announced soon.

REGISTRATION

Families interested in Learn to Play are welcome to fill out this interest form to be alerted when registration opens. We also need parent volunteers to support our coaches; please let us know on the form if you can assist.

What equipment do I need for Learn to Play?

Full gear is required for all participants. To get started, check out this equipment Checklist and Buying Guide from Hockey Monkey.

Hockey stores like Pure Hockey often have beginner gear packs, and can help your player get fitted.

The Ice Dogs try to hold a Gear Swap at least once a year. You can also ask around for any pieces you need: hockey families often have outgrown gear and are always eager to help new players out!

Once you’ve got the equipment, check out this USA Hockey video about how to dress out properly and safely. And also, feel free to ask another parent or coach for help — we’ve all been there!
