SPRING HOCKEY
OVERVIEW
Our spring hockey programs offer opportunities for all players, including a 4v4 league, player development clinics, girls teams, skating and skills sessions, tryout prep clinics and tournament teams.

Registration is now open to the public! Please note that under USA Hockey rules players "age up" in the spring.
Spring Teams
- What: The Champions League includes NOVA, Piedmont, and Potomac. League matches run under one hour and consist of three 15-minute running-clock periods. Each of the three league weekends will feature jamboree-style matches conducted concurrently across two sheets of ice. Final schedules determined by the total number of teams rostered by the participating clubs.

NOVA Ice Dogs Spring Tournament League
- What: Co-ed 12U-18U Spring Tournament teams offering weekly practices/development and 1 local tournament.
- Try-out location: Mount Vernon Ice Arena
- Try-out fee: $55 non-refundable fee
- 14U: 1:30-2:30pm
- 16U: 2:45-3:45pm
- 18U: 4:00-5:00pm
- 12U: 6:15-7:15pm
- 14U: 9:00-10:00am
- 16U: 10:15-11:15am
- 12U: 6:00-7:00pm
- 18U: 7:15-8:15pm

Eligibility: The Spring Tournament league is for competitive travel and rec players. Players must be evaluated at try-outs to be considered and compete for a roster spot.
- 12U-16U: $390 registration + tournament fee (~$100) + jersey/socks (~$75)
- 18U: $225 registration + tournament fee (~$100) + jersey/socks (~$75)
- Note: players' fees for the tournament will be based on the total number of players on a team. Ideally, teams will consist of 16 players. We are looking at the STJ Spring Tournament Series (5-7 Jun and the CCM Showdown at the Prince William Ice Center (8-10 May for 18U) or (15-17 May for 12U-16U).
*Goalies will receive a 50% registration discount.
The NOVA Ice Dogs have a special opportunity for birthyear 2014/2015 girls to participate on a 12U Girls Team for the Spring 2026 season that will play in local tournaments. 12U Girls that register for the Ice Dogs Girls Spring Development program (open to all girls birthyears 2007-2020) will have the opportunity to also tryout for this 12U Girls team that will focus on additional developmental skills and play in one or more local spring tournaments. Please see the Girls Spring Player Development program under "Clinics and Player Development."
Coaches will host a tryout session on February 28th to assess skill level for girls interested in playing for this 12U Girls team and make selections for the team. There is no additional registration cost to play on this 12U team but interested girls will need to pay a tryout registration fee and any costs for tournaments. See more information below.

Clinics and Player Development

This 4v4 league is specifically designed for LTP, 8U, 10U, and Girls 12U skaters to develop confidence and skills in a fast-paced, small-area environment.
Please read carefully and register according to your player's birth year/skills.
6p-7p: LTP grads, 6U, 8U (skaters that need to build confidence/develop skills)
- 6u/8u: Birth years 2018 and younger
- LTP Grads
If your child recently completed a Learn to Play program, regardless of age, please sign up only for the 6:00pm session.
715p-815p: 10U and Girls 12u Travel (more competitive skaters)
- 10U Birth years 2016/2017
- Girls 12u Travel: Birth years 2014 and younger
Parents: please choose based on your skater's age/skills but coaches/club may reassign skaters based on experience. Recent LTP grads, regardless of age, should only sign up for the 6:00pm session. Please reach out to kristi.carbone@novaicedogs.org if you aren't sure where to register!

High-repetition drills focusing on passing, puck possession, and shooting, game situations, and scrimmages.

Our girls spring player development program offers two weekly ice touches, comprised of Tuesday and Sunday night skills sessions and scrimmages.

Prepare for the approaching 2026-27 tryouts and sharpen technical skills with high-intensity drills focused on edge work, puck control, and situational awareness.
Player Requirements
To maintain the fast-paced nature of these tryout clinics and ensure all participants are best able to prepare for upcoming travel tryouts, players must demonstrate strong skating fundamentals.
**Note: Clinic sessions are for competitive travel candidates only. Strong skating proficiency is required to keep pace with the instruction.**
